At some point we all need an attorney. I was called on to rebuild the website for Klenda Austerman Attorneys at Law. They were already on WordPress, so I created a new theme with Zurb’s Foundation as the sites bedrock. I utilized Advanced Custom Fields to make updates for the client even easier. This is something that should be a staple for all WordPress developers.

The site is responsive and I also suggested they get an SSL certificate, because eventually every site will need one once Google starts using it to determine in their new SERP algorithms. I also made the code as lean as I could to help them decrease their page load times.

Unfortunately with WordPress and places like Theme Forrest, anyone can go out and buy and build a decent website. In my opinion this is a good thing. What isn’t good is more often than not, the code that comes with these themes are fairly large. This is referred to as code bloat. Even with frameworks like Foundation and Bootstrap, you get a lot of great features, but if you don’t use all of the features, then that unused code is still loaded into the themes CSS and Javascript files.

Developers should be removing anything that isn’t used in order for their users to download those files faster. Always keep these kinds of things in mind when you’re working with a developer or designer, because your page needs to load in two seconds or less to prevent high bounce rates in Google and Bing analytics.
